Hymn Miniatures 2 by Rebecca Groom Te Velde
Following the success of Hymn Miniatures 1, Rebecca Groom te Velde presents a second collection of twenty-eight practical arrangements for organ. These short pieces, each based on a well-known hymn tune, are ideal for use as service interludes, hymn introductions, communion meditations, and short preludes, offertories, and postludes. Suitable for use throughout the year, te Velde's accessible arrangements will prove invaluable to the church musician looking for fresh repertoire to enhance services.
Rebecca Groom te Velde's Hymn Miniatures bring notable ingenuity and skill to the ostensibly routine business of the hymn variationThe tunes are (with one possible exception) well-known in the UK, and every aspect of the volume, from pagination to registration to technical difficulty, has been planned with evident thoughtfulness. Quite apart from their liturgical usefulness, these pieces would make excellent teaching material and even offer templates for the canny teacher of basic improvisation. All are sitable for small instruments, and any organist in occasional or regular need of such material will find the collection invaluable. * Stepen Farr, Choir & Organ, July 2012 *
If you already have the first volume of Te Velde's Hymn Miniatures, you know the high quality and the imaginative use of hymns by this composer. Each piece is one to two pages in length and either for manuals only or with an easy pedal part - ideal teaching pieces and immediately useable by the student. The practical registration given works on almost any organ, and each miniature sounds ideal on that registration. * Rollin Smith, The American Organist October 2012 *
