Das, Jagannath Prasad: - J.P. (Jagannath Prasad) Das (born 1936, Odisha) is an Odia poet, playwright, fiction writer and art historian. He did his Masters from the University of Allahabad and after a short teaching career there joined the Indian Administrative Service but left it to devote himself to full time writing and research. He has published eleven volumes of poetry, eight collections of short stories, a novel, two collections of essays and five plays besides a number of books of children's verses. A Ph.D. in Art History, he has to his credit several books on Odishan Art. His works have been widely translated into English, Hindi and other Indian languages and his plays have been staged in many languages all over India. He is a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award, the Saraswati Samman and the Nandikar Theatre Award.
