Sharyn McCrumb is a New York Times bestselling author noted for her Appalachian Ballad novels such as The Ballad of Frankie Silver, She Walks These Hills, and The Ballad of Tom Dooley. The East Tennessee Historical Society's Wilma Dykeman Prize for Literature and the Audie Award for Outstanding Recorded Book went to Ghost Riders. She was a featured author at the National Book Festival in Washington, D.C. In 2006, she was named a Virginia Woman of History for Literature Achievement by the White House, and the Library of Virginia named her a Virginia Woman of History for Literature Achievement in 2008.
