ILLUMINA ART JEAN PIERRE TARGETE by Jean Ward
Illumina, the Art of Jean Pierre Targete spotlights over 100 paintings, sketches and never-before seen conceptual drawings by one of science fiction and fantasy's most versatile young artists. Targete's three-dimensional rendering, his expressionistic lighting and magician's ability to lead the eye grant an impossible realism to speculative fiction's most outre subjects. Illumina will delight science fiction and fantasy fans with images of beauties and barbarians, pistol-packing aliens, racing starfighters, maniacal mages and dragons that burn the very air they breathe. At the same time, mystery and romance readers may find themselves surprised by Targete's contributions to their favourite genre.
Jean Pierre Targete is one of science fiction and fantasy's most sought after "series artists," famous for his visual storytelling gifts and flexible style. His paintings grace collectible plates, comic book cards and roleplaying games as well as innumerable covers for science fiction, fantasy, mystery and romance novels. In 2001, his cover painting for Douglas Niles' The Circle at Center won the Chesley Award for Best Cover Illustration (Paperback Book). Jean Marie Ward is the editor of Crescent Blues, an online magazine covering fiction, art and entertainment. Over the course of her writing carcer, her byline has appeared in everything from daily newspapers to Navy accounting journals, Paper Tiger's in-house newsletter and Science Fiction Weekly to Web-based fiction magazines. In 2003, her short story, "Most Dead Bodies in a Confined Space," will appear in the anthology Strange Pleasures 2, edited by John Grant and Dave Hutchinson.
