Illustrated Book of Flags by Alfred Znamierowski
Flags are a means of cultural and national identity and communication, representing countries, groups and associations all over the world. This book looks at flags through the ages, beginning with their origin and development and moving on to flags in current use, including those of international organizations. Each flag is beautifully illustrated in full colour, and there is information about the political status, geographic position, area and population of the country it represents.
Alfred Znamierowski is a leading figure in vexillology and the world's foremost flag artist. He began publishing press articles on flags in the 1960s, and has undertaken extensive research in Europe and the US. He has designed flags and arms for many cities, communes, commercial firms and individuals. He is founder of the Instytut Heraldyczno-Weksylologiczny (Institute of Heraldry and Vexillology), whose files contain thousands of specifications, laws and regulations relating to flags and arms, and form one of the world's largest collections.
