Imagine Church by Neil Hudson
How can an ordinary church become a community of people who help one another live out their whole life at home, work, church, in the neighbourhood as followers of Jesus in his mission to the world? This book is for those who want life together in church to equip disciples who live out their faith in the realities of their day-to-day world. - Draws on three years of work with pilot churches across the UK - Practical examples of how a church can change - Real-life stories of churches and individualsBeautifully engaging, elegantly simple, gloriously practical. This isn’t a seven-step programme, but a traveller’s guide for a great journey – the transformation of church culture to whole-life disciple-making. I hope and pray many will use it.
Calling people into whole life discipleship: seeing Jesus everywhere, accessible and applicable is not an easy call. Disciple-making is hard, worthwhile, adventurous living and Neil Hudson’s masterly title will resource and inspire your obedience in the mission of Jesus in your world. I particularly love the underlying culture changing dynamic of Neil's writing. This is the spinal core of this new work calling us to attitude, action and transformation. As a pastor-theologian-leader Neil has gifted the church with something of lasting worth in transforming what can often feel dull, safe and stuck in our church communities. Logic, theology and practical steps abound. You'll often be saying 'a-ha', as few books offer such clear truth-telling, hope and actionable examples. Essential reading for all church leaders and useful for all Christians everywhere. This could be the best LICC (London Institute of Contemporary Christianity) title yet, and a prophetic catalyst for a nation of believers longing to get out of the limited straitjackets of our present existence into the spacious, risky, faithful and fruitful life of Jesus-following. Free of guilt, clichés and predictable step-plans... this is full of wisdom and already one of my best reads of the year. It could resource a revolution! Simple, practical and compelling.
Rev. Dr. Neil Hudson is the Director of Church Relationships for the LICC (London Institute of Contemporary Christianity), where he heads a team of consultants who encourage church leaders to develop whole-life disciple-making communities and culture-change abilities. Initially, he was the director of the LICC's Imagine Project, an action-research project that looked into the possibility of churches being communities that generate whole-life disciples. His book, Imagine Church, is based on the knowledge he gained during that effort. As the program progressed, a team of trainers and practitioners was developed, and he has led LICC's work with hundreds of churches in the United Kingdom and overseas through that team. His group hosts training days, learning communities, and creates tools that congregations can use on a regular basis.
Neil was a full-time or part-time local church leader for nearly 25 years and taught at Regents Theological College for eleven years. He is a member of the Salford Elim Church's leadership team.
