The Imperial Japanese Army by Bill Yenne

Using first-hand accounts from Japanese sources, this book reveals the tactics and mindset of the IJA during their offensive, detailing the capturing of Manila, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore, Burma, and the Dutch East Indies.
From Ted Green (Historical Association review): Yenne looks at the campaign as a coordinated plan from the Japanese point of viewGives a true feeling of how the Allied disasters unfolded. Excellent opening section. Gives a good introduction to anyone wanting to learn more about the campaign. This is an excellent book for anyone coming fresh to the subject or only knowing part of the story. A welcome addition to any military history library.
