In Company with Christ by Benedicta Ward Slg

This is an exploration on the power and traditions of pilgrimage. This book explores the power, the theology and the spirituality of procession and pilgrimage through the processions traditionally associated with Holy Week and Easter, the continuity of the pilgrimage tradition through the fourth and tenth centuries, to the present day. A sophisticated theologian herself, Benedicta Ward explores how the tradition of walking, in silence, in conversation with other, telling or listening to stories, manifests how the truth of Christ is available to all. The book based around lectures given in Canterbury Cathedral, substantially re-written as a book.
Benedicta Ward is a Reader in Christian Spirituality at Oxford, and teaches at Harris Manchester College and St Stephen's House. She is well-loved and her writing is much admired, but her publications have been few and far between. Her books include Harlots of the Desert (Continuum), The Desert Fathers (Penguin Classics) and Miracles and the Medieval Mind (Scalar Press). She recently co-edited (with Ralph Waller) the multi-author critique of Christian spiritual key texts Joy of Heaven: Springs of Christian Spirituality (SPCK)
