In Youth, In Fear, In War by David Longridge
Working as a courier for an escape line over the Pyrenees early in the Second World War, Francoise is approached by the British Secret Service. Is what they propose involving leaving her family and entering the lethal game of wartime espionage reasonable for a young woman only two years after finishing her schooldays in Bordeaux?
David Longridge is interested in the people who, in their own way, played critical roles during WW2 and it is this which led him to write his first novel, In Youth, In Fear, In War. During a career in the travel and financial services industries, which included living in France and Germany, David gained an in-depth understanding of the human make-up of the countries involved in the conflict and, in particular, how the contribution of women has been understated – in terms of impact as well as bravery.
