Indians at Herod's Gate, Navtej Sarna's most recent book, is a historical travel story about India and Jerusalem. He has written for the Times Literary Supplement and various other publications on a regular basis. He has worked as the Foreign Office spokesperson, India's ambassador to Israel, and the Secretary, Government of India since joining the Indian Foreign Service in 1980. He has been named India's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.
