Indoor Gardening by Diana Yakeley

Growing plants in the home has always been popular, and in this volume interior and garden designer, Diana Yakeley, shows how to choose and position plants to create maximum impact, taking into account scale and proportion, form and shape, colour and scent, and texture and pattern.
Diana Yakeley combines her interior design knowledge with that of her gardening to bring a stylish book on how best to display your houseplantsShe shows how to get the most out of your buys by choosing the right plant for the right place and display it to its best advantage with a complementary planter. Room by room, by form, colour and seasonal interest, the author demonstrates how a simple cactus can be transformed into what is almost a work of art. Concentrating on colour matching and balance, she explains how to enhance a plant display, to tone down over-femininity or exaggerate a contemporary form. Not limiting herself to tender plants, she shows how displays can be made by borrowing, short-term, from outside: cyclamen, hellebores, fruit and vegetables. From table settings to decorative features, her designs are clean, chic and contemporary, shown to perfection by the excellent photographs of Caroline Arber. Although the cultivation advice is minimal, the overall concept of designing with houseplants is sound and inspirational and should provide a wealth of ideas for plants and how to display them in every room of the house.
Diana Yakeley is a trained interior designer as well as a designer of contemporary gardens. An associate with her husband in an architectural practice, she has a clean, uncluttered approach to both interior design and gardening. Her modern, green-and-white garden in Islington, London, has been photographed extensively for a range of lifestyle magazines and books. Diana exhibits at various shows, including the Homes & Gardens Fair in 1999.
