The Inquisitors by John Edwards
The mentality of Spain's Inquisitors has fascinated people for centuries. This work investigates the Inquisitors-General, both as personalities - psychopaths to soulless bureaucrats - and as actors in the turbulent history of Spain between 1480, when the Inquisition started work, and its final abolition in 1834.
John Edwards is Research Fellow in Spanish at the University of Oxford and Correspondiente Royal of the Spanish Royal Academy of History. He is an acknowledged expert on the Spanish Inquisition and his other books include Inquisition, also published by Tempus. He is regular commentator on Spain's history on radio and television and in The Sunday Times and The Daily Express. He lives in Oxford.
