Intercultural Therapy by Jafar Kareem
The incidence of mental illness is higher amongst both British-born and immigrant ethnic and cultural minorities in the UK than amongst the rest of the population. It is evident that because of a serious lack of professional training, experience and expertise, these patients often do not receive appropriate treatment. There are numerous examples of failure to understand cultural issues - for example ignorance of traditional family structures leading to major diagnostic and therapeutic errors. These errors include beliefs with psychiatric symptons, especially psychotic symptomatology; and lack of awareness of differences in presenting symptomatology. This book identifies some of the key problems and major pitfalls of working across cultures, and explains the theories and techniques of intercultural therapy as developed by a group of specialists who have pioneered and who practise in this developing area.| SKU | Unavailable |
