It requires no previous knowledge of statistics or computer use, nor any mathematics beyond an elementary level. The principles of analysing data in simple stages are clearly explained, and it provides an introduction to using computers and SPSS, the most widely used statistical package in the social sciences. David Rose is Professor and Associate Director of the ESRC Research Centre on Micro-social Change (the British Household Panel Study) at the University of Essex. Oriel Sullivan is a Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Essex. Her main research interests lie in the analysis of housing consumption, the domestic division of labour, and the combination of quantitative with qualitative methodologies.
