Once Were Warriors and One Night Out Stealing are his novels; State Ward is a novella; and Maori: The Crisis and the Challenge is a nonfiction piece. Once Were Warriors, Duff's novel, won the PEN Best First Book for Fiction Prize and was adapted into a critically praised film, for which Duff authored the original screenplay.
