Deborah Guarino is the author of Is Your Mom a Llama?, a children's classic. It was also featured in Oprah's Book Club for Kids, was mentioned in an episode of the hit show Medium, and was recommended by actress Jennifer Garner in People magazine, who just became a literacy advocate for Save the Children. Her book's title was even used as the solution to a $2000 question on the popular quiz show Jeopardy! in 2010. Deborah read her book in tandem with the mayor of Denver and a state representative from Colorado, who read the Spanish translation of the title while Deborah read the original version. Deborah was happy to be accompanied by two live local llamas for her public presentations at Denver's historic Convention Hall and its largest public library, both of whom seemed to love all of the festivities as much as she did!
She is a freelance advertising copywriter, editor, playwright, actress, director, and professional speaker who routinely visits schools, libraries, and literacy events around the United States, offering fun, interactive lectures on writing and the creative process for children and adults alike. A reading of her book and the story behind it, a question and answer time, and engaging activities like a narrated, improvised comedy, interactive nonsensical songs, and dynamic performances of works in progress are all included in these events. Deborah is also a proud single mother of two sons, the oldest of which, Josh, is a stand-up comedian in New York, while Dan, a high school senior, aspires to work in painting and special effects.
