B. S. J. Isserlin has directed archaeological excavations in Israel, Sicily, Greece, and Spain. President of the British Association for Jewish Studies prior to his retirement, he served as head of the Department of Semitic Studies at the University of Leeds, England. He is also the author of A Hebrew Work-book for Beginners (1971) and Motya: A Phoenician and Carthaginian City in Sicily (1974).
