Oliver Postgate was born in 1925 in North London. He went to a variety of schools, including Dartington Hall by accident. Before forming Smallfilms with Peter Firmin in 1957, he tried his hand at a variety of jobs. From a cowshed near Canterbury, they went on to make a slew of children's films for television. He died at Broadstairs, Kent, in December 2008, at the age of 83.
