The very special magic of James Herriot's storytelling shines throughout this classic collection of stories about the animal he loves the most. Here are some of the dogs who have won a special place in the country vet's heart -- dogs like Tricki Woo, the little Pekinese suffering from 'flop-butt'; Clancy the dog who nobody would go near; and Gyp, the sheepdog who only barked once in his life. They're joined by lovable dogs of all shapes and sizes in a wonderful collection of stories, which will be enjoyed by all dog-lovers and James Herriot fans alike. James Herriot, a pseudonym for James Alfred Wight, grew up in Glasgow and qualified as a veterinary surgeon at Glasgow Veterinary College. Shortly afterwards he took up a position as an assistant in a North Yorkshire practice where he remained, with the exception of his wartime service in the RAF, until his death in 1995. He wrote many books about Yorkshire country life, including some for children, but he is best known for his memoirs, which begin with If Only They Could Talk. The books were televised in the enormously popular series All Creatures Great and Small.
