Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
Orphaned as a child, Jane has felt an outcast her whole young life. She suffers much cruelty, first in her aunt's unwelcoming home and then at the cold school for orphans, Lowood. Her courage is tested once again when she arrives at Thonfield Hall, where she has been hired by the proud Edward Rochester to be a governess for his ward, Adele.
Charlotte Bronte was born in 1816, the third of six children in a very talented family. Bronte wrote and published this book using a male pseudonym: Currer Bell. Released to critical acclaim, it became one of the most successful novels of the Victorian era.
