Jeeves in the Offing by P G Wodehouse
Bertie's ingenuity is put to the test when Jeeves goes on holiday. Taking a trip to Brinkley Court should be a joy for Bertie. When, however, he discovers that his fellow guests are to include his former fiancee Bobbie Wickham, Mrs Cream the crime writer, Bertie's favourite brain specialist Sir Roderick Glossop and his equally popular ex-headmaster, prize-stinker Aubrey Upjohn, Bertie looks set to have a troublesome time.
P G Wodehouse was born in Guildford in 1881. He was a prolific writer who, in Jeeves and Wooster, created two of the most popular characters of the 20th Century. He was created a Knight of the British Empire in 1975 and said in a BBC interview that he had no ambitions left now that he had been knighted and there was waxwork of him in Madame Tussauds. He died that same year, aged 93, on St Valentine's Day.
