The garden of Shute in Wiltshire is a seminal landscape garden revealing a unique working relationship between the formidable landscape architect Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe and his client, Michael Tree. Jellicoe was born in 1900 and studied at the Architectural Association. He has worked extensively in England, Italy and the USA creating evocative landscape gardens. He is also co-author of The Landscape of Man and founder member of the Landscape Institute. He was knighted i n 1979 for his services to landscape architecture. This book reveals how, through the relationship of Jellicoe and Tree, many ideas behind his great projects in America were born.
