Fred Sommer is a historian, linguist, and Germanistik student. He earned his doctorate from the University of Wisconsin in the United States. After studying English for two years in Bogota, Colombia, he went on to teach Deutsch at the University of Montana and Deep Springs College in the United States. He is currently a Dozent for German at the University of Maryland's European Division in Frankfurt am Main. He is the author of -Halb-Asien-: German Nationalism and Karl Emil Franzos' Eastern European Writings.
