Harriet Welty Rochefort was born in the Iowa town of Shenandoah. In 1971, she relocated to France permanently. She has contributed pieces to various newspapers and magazines, including Time and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, as a freelance journalist. A Letter from Paris, her online column, can be found in the Paris Pages. She has also taught journalism at the elite Institut d'Etudes Politiques' English Department. She lives in Paris with her husband, Phillipe, and their two sons.
