He is the author of Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain and the Petersburg Campaign: His Supposed Charge from Fort Hell, his Near-Mortal Wound, and a Civil War Myth Reconsidered (2016), a critically acclaimed micro-history of the Civil War experience at Petersburg on June 18, 1864, and the medically related issues suffered by Chamberlain. The father of two sons, he resides with his lovely wife Ellen in St. Joseph, Michigan.
