Every Saturday morning Steven goes to watch his older sister, Theresa at her dancing class - and he longs to join in too. At home, he practises jumping. Steven's mum, though, says that real boys don't dance, they play basketball. But Steven does join in the dancing and on the night of the show he is the star, jumping higher than anyone else in the basketball dance. Steven's mum is amazed and impressed. "He'll make a fine basketball player one day", says a woman in the audience. "He'll make a fine dancer too", says Steven's mum. Michelle Magorian has also written "Goodnight, Mr Tom" (winner of the Guardian Fiction Award and the International Reading Award for Children's Literature), "Back Home" and "Waiting for my Shorts to Dry".
