Just Let ME Play by Charlie Sifford
This dictionary has been prepared primarily for professional botanists and for students of biology and forestry in Papua New Guinea. It is based on the Dictionary of the Generic and Family Names of Flowering Plants and Ferns of the New Guinea and South-West Pacific Region (Botany Bulletin No. 3, March (1973). It includes the genera found in Papua New Guinea with the islands, in West Papua (Irian Jaya) and in the Solomon Islands. Also included are introduced plant genera and those of economical importance. This book reprints the 1992 publication of the Wau Ecology Institute Handbook Number 13.Jim Gullo is an author and journalist who lives in McMinnville, Oregon, with two of his three boys (the third is grown up), a wonderful wife, an ancient Golden Retriever with memory lapses, and a dynamite rabbit. During his long career as a book and magazine writer, Jim has written about a wide range of topics. He's scuba dived with sharks in Tahiti (great, but a little scary, and that's just from the sharks' perspective); harvested grapes for wine harvests in Burgundy, France, and Switzerland (yodel-ay-ee-who); resided in New York City, Seattle, Los Angeles, and Hawaii (uh, howzit, bro? ); and played golf in Scotland while pretending to be a P.G. Wodehouse character (Nae the mashie niblick, boy); hung around with sumo wrestlers in Japan (Please pass the rice...oh, never mind); interviewed Hollywood stars on location; and eaten at Paris' finest pastry shops (Encore des croissants, if you like!). Among a slew of other things.
His publications include a memoir about teaching baseball to his son, the first African-American pro golfer's as-told-to autobiography, a novel about love and loss, a couple of guidebooks to Seattle and Portland, readers for middle-school children about Hillary Clinton and the antebellum South, and now The Comedy Keeper, a loving tribute to the Marx Brothers and the power of humor, written for young people. While Jim isn't writing, he's usually creating delectable pastries, which he then devours if his sons don't get to them first. Jim can be reached at jim (at) jim-gullo (dot) com for anything (and I mean EVERYTHING). His advise to readers is straightforward: have a good time, laugh a lot, and make those six hard-boiled eggs.
