Just Like Grandpa Jazz by Tarah L Gear
A charming story which showcases Mauritian culture, written from the author's personal experience of privilege and racism experienced within one dual-heritage family. The book gently educates about Windrush, migration and mixed race family make-ups but primarily celebrates the gorgeous relationship between grandson and grandpa who are more alike than they appear at first glance. Also includes back matter about heritage and elements of anti-racism.
"A valuable book that explains the concept of migration to younger children in a family orientated and accessible style" - The School Reading List review 'Best Children's Books Coming Out in Summer 2022' ; "A book to treasure!" @literate.littles ; "A wonderful read filled with floral shirts, family, fun and tropical feels! I love the beautiful intergenerational relationship at its heart, and the way that it shows the power storytelling has to connect families to their heritage and history..." @mrsbrownsbookbox
Tarah had always wanted to write children's stories. Even as a child herself she would always tell her mum that she wanted to be an author when she grew up. "My dream was to become the author of children's books. It wasn't until I had my own child that I decided to bite the bullet and put pen to paper. I hope that my stories will help inspire and empower children as they grow up into the world. I look forward to sharing more and more stories with children and their families."
