Kath Trevelyan by Jeremy Cooper
Kath Trevelyan intends to remain alive until the moment she dies. At seventy-two, she is still running a letterpress printer, visiting arts festivals with her now middle-aged daughters and absorbing the richness of the world. Her beloved husband is long dead and she believes she has had her share of romantic love, but now her life is filled with beauty: from the splendour of the countryside to the strange innovations of contemporary art. She thinks there can be no more for her except her work, her family, friends and all that is ceaselessly interesting in the world. John Garsington, who lives further down the lane, feels the same. Though much younger than Kath, he too has a passion for art and work that he loves - as well as buying and selling antiques, he studies the work of some of the wildest Young British Artists. So begins this quiet love story, in which life, art and these two minds connect, each becoming irresistible to the other. Jeremy Cooper delicately draws out the joy and trepidation of finding someone whose mind so perfectly fits one's own.
