Shawn McGuire is the author of speculative fiction novels for young adults that combine modern settings with a dash of fantasy and magic. She began writing after witnessing the first Star Wars film as a child (episode IV): she couldn't wait for the next one, so she created her own. Those notebooks are unfortunately no longer in existence, but her passion to write remains as strong today as it was then. She grew up in Winona, Minnesota, a lovely Mississippi River town that inspired the location for Sticks and Stones and the upcoming Break My Bones. She relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Go Pack Go!) after graduating from college and resided there for many years. Shawn enjoys cooking and baking, crafts, interior decorating, and spending time hiking and camping in the magnificent Rocky Mountains with her family when she is not writing or reading.
