The Killing of Julia Wallace by John Gannon

On 20 January 1931, Mrs Julia Wallace was brutally battered to death in the parlour of her home in Anfield, Liverpool. In April of that year, William Herbert Wallace, Julia's husband, was found guilty of her seemingly motiveless murder and sentenced to death by hanging. Yet on 19 May 1931, the sentence was overturned at the Court of Appeal. Since that day, the question of who killed Julia Wallace has remained unanswered. Now, John Gannon has undertaken painstaking research of all relevant records, including the police and legal files. Building on the work of prior investigators of this famous and fiendishly intriguing case, Gannon is able to present a fresh analysis, offering new evidence, revealing answers and convincing proofs. A compelling examination of what transpired leading up to, during and following the night of the gruesome murder, The Killing of Julia Wallace is the bloody, tragic and shocking story of what happened, who did it, and why.
John has a science degree and a Master’s degree in screenwriting. He is a fulltime writer/researcher whose work ranges from radio, television and movie scripts (winning the Lynda La Plante Screenwriting Award in 2006) to newspaper and magazine articles. After writing for Radio 4’s ‘Weekending’ and ‘Huddlines’ for many years, he has contributed toward many productions and publications including the BBC documentary series, ‘Mitchell and Kenyon’, BBC 4 documentary, 'A Very British Murder', hosted by Dr Lucy Worsley, and BBC 4 documentary 'The Real Tom Thumb: History's Smallest Superstar', hosted by Lord Michael Grade, for which he uncovered important, brand new information the ‘Tom Thumb’ historians had never known of, along with appearing on BBC1 magazine programme, 'The Now Show', with Gyles Brandreth. Along with his regular contributions to the Liverpool History Society Journal, John co-authored, ‘The Beatles: Living in the Eye of the Hurricane’ with author, Kevin Roach, and researched and wrote, 'The Killing of Julia Wallace' for Amberley Publishing.
