The Kingfisher Atlas of the Medieval World 500CE-1450CE by Simon Adams
Aimed at children aged 8 and over, this atlas examines a selection of major civilizations. Each selection is illustrated by a map featuring pictorial icons which give a flavour of the civilization it covers. It presents the civilization's history and then talks about that society's people and the buildings, stories and ideas they have left behind.
Simon Adams was born in Bristol and studied at London and Bristol universities. He then worked as an editor of children's reference and other non-fiction books before becoming a full-time writer 15 years ago. Since then, he has written and contributed to more than 50 books on subjects as varied as American history, the sinking of the Titanic, the two world wars and the history of jazz. He is the author of Kingfisher Knowledge: Castles & Forts and Kingfisher Knowledge: Life in Ancient Rome.
