Kingfisher Knowledge is a groundbreaking series for readers hungry for information on today's hot topics. Lively, engaging text, packed with information, accompanies stunning photographs that enhance each chapter. Amazing, state-of-the-art digital artwork guides readers into the fascinating heart of the subject. This learning adventure does not stop there - information panels throughout lead the reader to further discovery. Each chapter offers website links, book lists, places to visit and career information. Stars & Planets takes the reader on a journey through Space. Starting with an inspection of distant stars and galaxies, and then homing in on the planets and particles in our Solar System, the captivating text and sublime images provide a remarkable window on the known Universe. Read about man's fascination with astronomy and how it has developed over the millennia to encompass today's space innovations, such as the space-based Hubble telescope. Learn about the recent giant leaps in space exploration, resulting in the 2004 Mars landing. How much can we discover about everything that is the Universe? Stars & Planets will motivate avid astronomers and aspiring astronauts to think about these, the biggest questions of all.
Carole Stott has written more than 20 books on astronomy and space, and is a feature writer for the UK magazine Astronomy Now. Carole authored Kingfisher's popular I Wonder Why Stars Twinkle and Other Questions About Space and The Best-Ever Book of Astronomy. Before turning to full-time writing, she was curator, then head of observatory, at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich. Sir Patrick Moore has written numerous books on astronomy. Since 1957, he has presented every one of the monthly Sky at Night programmes, a fact which has earned him a place in the Guinness book of Records as the longest-serving television presenter. In 2001, Patrick received a knighthood from the Queen.
