Kingfisher's Fire by Reverend Peter Harris
Hope is often the missing element in the environmental story. Over the last quarter century the Christian conservation organisation A Rocha has been protecting and restoring threatened sites. Their engagement with local communities, bringing new life to urban and rural areas, has made a profound impact in many lives and places. Peter Harris delightfully blends his personal story with that of A Rocha, describing a passionately-held vision and how it has worked out in the life of his own family.
PETER HARRIS is the founder of 'A Rocha', a Christian conservation organisation that protects and restores threatened sites. He and his wife Miranda with their three small children moved to Portugal in 1983 to establish and run A Rocha's first field study centre and bird observatory on the Ria de Alvor. In 1955 the work was given over to national leadership and they moved to France where they worked with national and international colleagues to establish a similar centre which opened in early 2001. Since leaving Portugal they have also been coordinating an emerging network of A Rocha projects which are now in eighteen countries worldwide.
