Iain Ayre, who was born in Scotland and now lives in Canada, is opinionated and distracted, and his school pushed him to leave. He intended to take an English and art teaching degree after numerous odd gap year jobs, but because teaching is hard work, he became a model portfolio photographer, cartoonist, advertising copywriter, copy chief, and creative director, eventually ending up as a writer at J. In Mayfair, Walter Thompson. He made the mistake of starting an advertising firm, and when that failed, he moved into motorsport journalism, writing for Triumph World, Historic Cars, MG Enthusiast, Kitcar, Japanese Performance, Redline, Jaguar World, and other journals in Australia and the United States. He co-founded Classic Ford and authored fourteen books about cars, as well as one on gourmet dog food. He builds cars in his spare time, including a three-wheeled Mini, spaceframed XK120 reproductions, a propane turbo V8 Cobra, and, most recently, an Art Deco-inspired Rolls-Royce boat-tailed two-seat speedster in aluminum.
