He later worked on the London Midland Region as General Manager, before becoming a member of the British Railways Board in a senior capacity. He is the founder of the Railway Children Charity, which looks after street children in India and East Africa, also working in Britain, with run away children. He lives in retirement in Nantwich, Cheshire, where he is involved with his local church and local charities.
