Lancelot Andrewes by David Scott

David Scott introduces a personal selection from Lancelot Andrewes' Private Prayers in this, the first volume in this series on seventeenth century spiritual writers. These prayers are very powerfully written and are of interest as texts and as devotional reading. This volume will contain some biographical detail and historical context, and the influence they have had. Lancelot Andrewes (1555-1626) was chaplain to Queen Elizabeth, Bishop of Chichester, Ely and then Winchester.
David Scott is Warden of Spirituality in the Diocese of Winchester and Rector of St Lawrence with St Swithun-upon-Kingsgate, Winchester. Three books of his poems have been published by Bloodaxe, and he is much compared to George Herbert and RS Thomas. He has also written An Anglo-Saxon Passion and Sacred Tongues for SPCK.
