The Land Beside is the third book in The Land series. The storyline depicts unusual adventures of Josie, the protagonist, in the land beside her family house, where among her meetings with strange people she confronts persistent robots and aggressive shamans. Josie has more adventures in her visits to Mongolia, Dubai, Shanghai (China), and outer space. Alongside this, readers get to know the different communicative strategies she uses in her relationship with the good, the bad and the ugly people she meets. Values of trust, gratitude and friendship resound throughout the book.
Janet Hong Eng Lim is an educationist, writer and artist. She has degrees in areas of education (History, Education, Linguistics) from the National University of Singapore, The University of London and the University of Leeds). She did research in the areas of education and communication strategies in different universities in her sabbatical years. She has done much work with young and mature adults, and children in education in the society at large. Her work with them has enriched her knowledge and experience and enabled her to bring them into the stories she writes. This is the third contemporary fantasy book she has written, set in the 21st century. She has other educational publications which were written when she served as a full-time lecturer in the National University of Singapore. She now spends much of her time in writing, counseling and artwork. She believes firmly in stable family foundations for healthy family bonding.
