The Last Grain Race by Eric Newby
This account of a life on the open seas captures the excitement of a young man on his first adventure, and depicts the colourful characters of crew members on the good ship "Moshulu". It also fully describes the challenges of crewing a tall ship in hard conditions. In the year 1919, Eric Newby was born in London. He worked in the fashion industry and book publishing after serving in the Black Watch and the Special Boat Section during WWII, but he was always on the move, occasionally as the Observer's Travel Editor. In 1994, he was knighted, and in 2001, he received the British Guild of Travel Journalists' Lifetime Achievement Award.
