
Sons and Other Flammable Things, Porochista Khakpour's debut novel, was a New York Times Editor's Pick, a Chicago Tribune Fall's Best, and the 2007 California Book Award winner in the First Fiction category. NPR, Kirkus Reviews, BuzzFeed, PopMatters, Electric Literature, and others named her second novel The Last Illusion a Best Book of the Year in 2014. A National Endowment for the Arts fellowship is among her many honors. Her nonfiction has appeared in a variety of publications, including The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Elle, Slate, Salon, and Bookforum. She has taught in the MFA programs at VCFA and Stonecoast, as well as serving as a Contributing Editor at Evergreen Review. Khakpour was born in Tehran and reared in the Los Angeles area. He now resides in New York City.
