The Last of the Baileys by Paula Paul
Trudy Bailey Walters, who is in her 70s, thinks the old house she just bought for back taxes might be haunted. The house has been in her family for years but is now broken down and barely livable. Adam Bailey, who Trudy has known since childhood, lives in a little house on the property. He says he will help Trudy find the source of the "haunting," but, he doesn't want Trudy to know the truth.Although Trudy has no intention of taking in boarders, she soon finds several people living with her, including a young mother with a rebellious teenage daughter and an undocumented immigrant who is searching for a daughter who has been separated from her. While all of them search for the source of the haunting, they are diverted by a more pressing matter. Adam wants to help the undocumented woman find her daughter and finally convinces the others to help in the search, including a reluctant Trudy. Illegal escapades, unexpected friendships, and startling conclusions ensue.
