The Last of the Donkey Pilgrims by Kevin O'hara
Kevin O'Hara's journey of self discovery begins as a mad lark: who in their right mind would try to circle the entire coastline of Ireland on foot - and with a donkey and cart no less? But Kevin had promised his homesick Irish Mother that he would explore the whole of the Old Country and bring back the sights and the stories to their home in Massachusetts. Determined to reach his grandmother's village by Christmas Eve, Kevin and his stubborn but endearing donkey, Missie, set off on an 1,800 mile trek along the entire jagged coast of a divided Ireland. Their rollicking adventure takes them over mountains and dales, through smoky cities and sleep villages, and into the farmhouses and hearts of Ireland's greatest resource - its people. Along the way, Kevin would meet incredible characters, experience Ireland in all of its glory, and not only explore his Irish past, but find his future self.Kevin used to be a classic Irish boozehound. He had been a heavy drinker for almost 30 years and had always considered alcohol to be a part of his identity, culture, and life. He, like so many others, believed that his own lack of control was the source of his alcoholism. He came to the conclusion that the problem was with him, not the drink, and that he was an alcoholic after repeated failed attempts at moderation. Things did not appear to be going well.
His health was deteriorating, his hangovers were becoming more severe, he was unfit, overweight, and in general fading away. But the most agonizing part was recognizing that his drinking had made him a bad role model for his adolescent son. Everything else was manageable, but the thought of guiding his son down the same disastrous path was unbearable. With that awful understanding, I made the decision to stop right now and for good.
Kevin's message, as well as that of his website, alcoholmastery.com, is simple: you don't have to do anything to stop drinking; all you have to do is stop putting alcohol in your mouth. It isn't quite as difficult as you may think. You didn't inherit your thirst for alcohol; you learned it. It's as simple as picking up some new abilities to properly break this habit.
You'll learn more beneficial methods of thinking and dealing with your life. You will engineer the changes for a happy, healthy, and full life step by step and day by day. Kevin's ability to break down complex issues into a no-nonsense, straight-talking, and down-to-earth manner sets him apart from other teachers in the field of stopping alcohol. His direct counseling technique is based on dismantling your alcohol preconceptions and reconsidering your connection with alcohol and its use in society.
He will not promise you an easy trip, but he will provide you with genuine step-by-step techniques that you can use right now in your life.
