Late Medieval England 1399-1509 by Aj Pollard

Suitable for undergraduate history courses in medieval studies. This new history of England in the fifteenth century will transform our understanding of the period. Drawing together political, economic, social and religious considerations, the clear chronological framework brings the age of the Wars of the Roses to life. Placing the English experience within the vital context of the British Isles, the book ranges from the reign of Henry IV to the closing of the middle ages with Henry VII, covering: - The Lancastrian dynasty - The wake of the Hundred Years War - The Wars of the Roses - The Accession of the Tudors. Its underlying theme is that, even with upheaval the century was a time of social stability and development in which many elements of a recognisably 'modern' English society emerged.
'Professor Pollard brilliantly accomplishes his goals.. [and] rehabilitates the reputation of the period...'Michael Myers, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign 'The story is well-told, in elegant prose...and Pollard deftly incorporates a wide range of colourful material'"THES" 'coherent, clearly organized, and well indexed - as easy to dip into as read as a whole...a valuable, reasoned guide through a complex era'"Speculum"
