Law Relating To Animals by Deborah Legge

This book looks at animal law in a wide context and considers policy issues, moral and ethical debates, political ideas and economic influences. It concentrates on public forms of control as these make up the bulk of legal protection in this area, but it also looks briefly at common law controls. The book also examines European law and International law and it takes a comparative look at Australian law which has taken a different stance to the UK in relation to the protection of animals.
It is a very helpful reference book with a lot to offer anyone interested in these subjects or wanting to strengthen their arguments in debate.. There is plenty of background to current issues, references to leading writers and and thinkers and to the main organisations active in these fields. These are backed up by extensive quotations and good summaries of the relevant law, case studies and points for discussion. Feline Advisory Bureau, Summer 1998. The text will prove to be a valuable contribution to the animal welfare and protection literature and will provide students with a solid introduction to this complex and contentious area. Modern Law Review, May 1998.
