Learning Law by Anthony Marinac

Learning Law equips students with the foundational knowledge and skills to succeed in their law studies. It breaks down the Australian court system and Parliament, and guides students through nuanced concepts including being an ethical lawyer, equality in the law, and what to expect when becoming a legal practitioner. Dedicated chapters explore the complexities of Australia's legal history and Indigenous peoples and the law, providing students with vital context for understanding the contemporary Australian legal landscape. Learning Law has been significantly revised. It includes new chapters focused on developing legal skills including reading cases, writing persuasive essays and other assessments. Chapters on statute law and statutory interpretation have been expanded, giving students clearer guidance in a challenging area of legal study. Review questions reinforce learning, and extension questions encourage students to build their problem-solving skills. Contributions by in-practice legal professionals exemplify the varied careers a law degree can prepare students for.
Anthony Marinac has had a varied legal career in Australia, including stints as a barrister, as partner in a boutique law firm, as Counsel Assisting in Queensland's Office of the State Coroner, as a commissioned legal officer in the Royal Australian Air Force and as a Senate Committee Secretary in the Department of the Senate, Parliament House Canberra. He has taught at CQUniversity and James Cook University in Australia, and now teaches at the National University of Management in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. He operates one of Australia's largest legal education channels on YouTube, with more than 1200 videos online, and more than 3 million views. She is a two-time Vice-Chancellor's Teaching Award recipient, and the awardee of an AAUT national citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning 'for inspiring the next generation of legal scholars, advocates, and changemakers through holistic mentorship and transformative learning design'. Her parallel career in the NGO sector includes over a decade's work for the Jane Goodall Institute as a Board Director, Roots & Shoots Leader, Global Advocacy Committee Member, and Resident Expert on Wildlife Crime and International Law. He has extensive teaching experience, legal practice and research histories in clinical case supervision, moral development and legal ethics. Adrian has published on ethics for lawyers and law firms, the notion of 'quality' in clinical experience, client attitudes to lawyers, the values of legal practitioners, monitoring and controlling lawyer corruption, and the ethical environment, in which lawyers' fidelity compensation is addressed locally and internationally.
