The Leatherworking Handbook by Valerie Michael

The essential leatherwork Bible for amateurs and professionals. Valerie Michael, a founder member of the Association of Design Leatherworkers, has been a full-time leatherworker for over twenty years, and this book contains the very best of her knowledge and experience. The book features thorough presentations of each of the key techniques, including finishing edges, paring and hand stitching, making pockets, attaching studs and straps and decorating surfaces. There are also ten projects, suitable for developing levels of skill, from belts and wallets to quilted work and three different types of leather bag. Covering everything from basic stitching for beginners to intricate piping, quilting and box work, this invaluable 128-page book is packed with photos and diagrams, along with clear instructions and explanations of the terms used. Not only an ideal introduction to fascinating topic, but an invaluable work of reference to be turned to again and again. 'This is the hands-down the best leatherworking guide I've found by a highly talented leatherworker - highly recommended for anyone starting out or wanting to develop their skills' - Becky Cocker, Owner and Artisan at CARV
Valerie Michael is a founding member of the Association of Designer Leatherworkers and has been a full-time leatherworker for over twenty years. She began her leather working career in Bristol in 1971. Today she makes a range of men's and women's bags, cases, luggage, belts, cases, wallets, purses using only the best quality vegetable-tanned leathers. She is one of the few people who are allowed to use the unique 'Russia' leather which was salvaged from the Metta Catharina, a Russian ship which sank in 1786 off the Cornish coast.
