Let the Drum Speak by Linda Shuler
The epic story of a world before Columbus--and a woman bound by a sacred legacy that will live for all time.
She is called Antelope, the daughter of Kwani--She Who Remembers. Possessed of the same mystical powers that made her mother beloved and feared, Antelope takes her infant daughter and follows her wandering mate to the fabled city of the Great Sun. Here, her beauty arouses the lust of the city's supreme ruler--a man who will become her most terrible enemy. And here, in a place of primitive splendor and savage human sacrifice, far from her people and torn from the man she loves, Antelope must struggle for her survival.and to keep her child safe at all costs.
Linda Lay Shuler (1910-2011) was a clever, creative, and ambitious lady who lived in a different era. In the days when women were expected to stay at home and write and produce for radio, she won honors against corporate giants. She stepped directly into television, creating, producing, and directing travel documentaries for the Texas Highway Department, as well as writing and producing a traffic courthouse series and organizing radio/TV seminars. Her greatest achievement in the film industry was writing, directing, and producing a five-screen film, the first of its kind. It was displayed at the 1968 Hemisfair in San Antonio, sponsored by Humble Oil (Exxon), in a circular building built specifically for it. Her three novels, however, were undoubtedly her greatest enduring professional achievements.
