Ansel Adams despatched and received literally thousands of letters and postcards during his lifetime. Other than family and friends, he corresponded with fellow photographers, environmentalists and politicians. This collection provides a portrait of an important 20th-century artist.Mary Street Alinder is an independent academic who specializes in photography from the twentieth century. Aside from her works, she has curated shows all around the world, including the 1987 de Young Museum blockbuster and a 2002 Adams Centenary exhibition. Alinder has given talks all over the world, from the National Gallery in Washington, DC, to the Barbican Centre in London, to the Shanghai Culture Center in China. She is a resident of Northern California.
