Library of Wales: In the Green Tree by Alun Lewis
The eighth title in the landmark series of classics, the Library of Wales. A collection of letters and six short stories which paint a vibrant picture of life in India as a British serviceman during the second World War. It is a rare literary example of a Welshman's experience of empire and war, told intimately, vivdly and always with emotion. -- Cyngor Llyfrau Cymru
'The stories are ssured, mature and resonantThey reveal a writer with a natural ear for speech and a skilled handling of pace... [L]isten to Lewis's voice, to the voices of his fiction, and then listen to the unspoken dialogue between his letters and his stories, made possible by their leaning against each other in this book.' Owen Sheers
