Life in the Boreal Forest by Gennady Spirin

A beautiful forest is in danger.

This non-fiction book shows why the boreal forest . . . is as big and important as tropical rain forests. --USA Today

The great northern forest--the boreal forest--is home to a unique ecosystem of animals and plants. It covers one-third of the earth's total forest area and is home to so many birds that it is known as North America's bird nursery.

The forest is a treasure trove of riches, but it's threatened by increased human development and climate changes. This gorgeous book teaches readers about the boreal forest and reminds them that it's up to us to make sure the beauty and bounty survive.

Life in the Boreal Forest written by Brenda Z. Guiberson and illustrated by Gennady Spirin, is a beautiful book about conservation and nature.

Cactus Hotel, Spoonbill Swamp, Moon Bear, and Disasters are just a few of Brenda Z.Guiberson's children's books. Brenda had no desire to be a writer as a child; her fantasies were more akin to that of a jungle adventurer. She earned degrees in English and Fine Art from the University of Washington. As her son started elementary school, she became interested in writing for children in volunteered in his class and the school library. She intended to write field trip books for kids after going on interesting outings that included a fifty-foot cactus, hungry alligators, and sunset-colored spoonbills.

Brenda sees her study as an adventure that allows her to be a jungle explorer at long last, and her novels are packed of well-researched detail. She is a resident of Seattle, Washington.
